northwest air

that was taken over a month ago on my way to minnesota. i didn't knit as much then as i did on the way back, when it was too dark outside to take pictures.

taken by jg

a suprising amount of knitting and wool related encounters happened while i was in minnesota, particularly in the tiny town of aitkin.

sold at an antique store
100% fun for $2

christmas stocking size socks
found on a neglected rack in the back of a radio shack

seen in a swedish children's book at the used bookstore

the aitkin county fair happend to begin during my visit. as much as i dread fairs, i forged ahead with jg, his mom, and his uncle. there were all manners of farm animals being shown but there but not many sheep. the few that i saw were all sheared.

couldn't find any information on the breed

husband and wife molesting oh-so-soft sheep

sadly, i could not locate any booth that sold fleece. it seemed counter-intuitive to put sheared sheep on exhibition and then not sell any wool. no fair. aitkin county unfair.

while running around looking for signs of off-sheep wool, i found this booth.

felted slippers, only $7 a pair but i didn't buy any

the non wool table

cotton washclothes with fancy stitch motifs
$2 each or $5 for three

i was rather impressed by the prices. everything was $10 or less. then i heard the rapid clicking.

the knit wits ladies at their machine

very nice ladies but they couldn't tell me where i could find some aitkin wool. instead they recommended going to brainerd to visit the local yarn manufacturer. no way i would go a town where they put people in wood chippers.

felted bags, kureyon no less

i found these bags at the most unlikely place in aitkin, the jacques art gallery gift shop.

nestled on shelves, too

same price for all bags

i did not leave aitkin empty handed. i found some wool yarn at butler's, the local clothing/uphostery/sports/craft store which doubles as a museum.

jg paying for a skein of bemidji yarn

sturdy but not at all coarse
4 ounces 225 yards $5.89

holden's drugs, minnesota avenue, aitkin, minnestoa

he doesn't look it, but i know he does. because i love aitkin, too.
