sock glove dog thursday 12.08.2005

i bought a mess of japanese craft books recently. i'm going to show you the best project of the bunch, the one that made me drop everything and force g to take me around town looking for string knit gloves.

book jacket
isbn 4-579-11061-7

fitting that they should put the monkey on the back; he's my least favorite of the bunch. anyway, look at the way the pattern is laid out. this is why i am such a sucker for these books!

so far, we have no luck finding the cotton gloves. if you happen to know a good source for them, please, i beg of you, let me know. i am interested in buying them in bulk.

g and i did succeed getting socks. once i get the gloves, let's all get together and have craft night!

About a year ago I also struggled to find a pair of cotton gloves that I intended to actually wear. Some cosmetic companies sell those. You're supposed to cover your hands in some restoring lotion and then wear the gloves. I got mine through amazon, but I'm pretty sure there's cheaper places to find them.

a few years ago one of our teachers needed cheap gloves for a parent workshop making finger/hand puppets. she found these cotton string gloves, i think, at a hardware or home improvement store....

$6 for a box of 12? If you weren't so far away I'd be at your house tonight demanding equal time with some cotton gloves...

I cannot begin to explain how excited I was to find your glove dog on the web. After two hours of killing time searching ebay for everything remotely valuable I have in my house (I like to know what kind of treasures I may own), I searched on "sock monkey". (I was obviously now at the less valuable end of my inventory). Anyway, I came across the Japanese craft book (same one as yours) and laid eyes for the first time on the glove dog. My heart soared, I squealed, I rejoiced. It was so adorable I could not contain myself. A few minutes of frantic Googling luckily lead me to your site. Thanks for posting the diagram. Only problem is, I still can't figure out how to make the head. Any tips?

Thanks again for letting me in on the glove dog world. I too will be hitting the streets in search of cotton gloves. I lived in Japan for a year a while back and I swear, 90% of the population wears them!
