i made those over the weekend. the yarn is from a hideous kid size sweater i found at a thrift shop in sb. i bought it for the colors. i thought the yarn was acrylic so, after i ripped the sweater and wound the yarn into hanks, i threw it in with a load of laundry. it totally surprised me when the yarn came out shrunken and felted together. i guess there must be a good percentage of wool in it.
anyway, i knit both hats using the same needles and pattern. you can't really tell from the picture but one turned out larger than the other. i even made sure they had the same number of stitches and rows. i must be some sort of magician.
i plan on giving both hats away. after g gets her pick (because she called from australia asking "how many tons of wool would you like for souvenir?"), i'll just have to foist the remainder hat on another unfortunate friend.
