i just spent the last half hour on the phone with my credit card company. my mastercard was compromised.
i got a call from gamut enterprise asking me to verify the order i placed on their website. i asked him, "what do you sell?" he said, "we're a long distance phone card service."
turns out my impostor made three telephone related orders using my information: a cell phone plan purchase, a long distance call, and a phone card. the sum came up to about $70, which is surprisingly small for spreeing on someone else's card.
what i don't like knowing is that this shitwheel has my personal information, such as my mailing address, phone numbers, etc. two of my sisters had their entire identity compromised. one had to go down to the police station to prove she's not the woman they caught on video tape using my sister's credit card and id! apparently this impostor applied and received a whole slew of credit cards using my sister's information, down to her social security number!
in case you are wondering: my credit card is not stolen. it is in my possession. the theft must have occurred online. i understand this risk everytime i place an online order. but i don't know any way around it. dot com shopping is so prevalent and, well, convenient. i guess that's a risk i have to to live with.
