391 hexagons friday 07.11.2008

44" x 70"

i am done with piecing the hexagons together, but just in the horizontal direction. i'm tempted to add two more columns of hexagons. it's a decent size for a throw as it is, i guess. but, the more i look at it, the more i want to make it wider.

mind the gaps

it should take me no time to piece the hexagons in the vertical direction. only if i could decide on when to stop the crocheting.

seen, not bought monday 07.21.2008

sunday i made jg take me to the alemany flea market. neither of us had ever been there before so we didn't know what to expect. turned out to be a true flea market, one giant garage sale.

that's the nicer of the two spinning wheels i saw. the seller first wanted $120 for it. as i walked away, he lowered it to $100.

$10 isn't a bad deal for an authentic handmade granny square afghan. i would have bought it if it wasn't made of cotton.

one seller had loads of beads but the hanks were all tangled up. i managed to weed out two strands, only to have the seller tell me he didn't know the price. "my wife is in charge of that stuff. she went to the restroom."

we spent a total of 25 minutes at the flea market. i passed up a lot of interesting stuff. the weather was not ideal for rumaging: cold, breezy, misty fog. but i had fun. i'd like to go back on a better day. who knows when that would be.

wednesday finds wednesday 07.23.2008

i had to go to sfo this morning. on the way home i thought i'd stop by scrap. i hadn't been there since april. i got some wool yarn, about two pounds, for $3. i also scored this deal:

by deal i mean free. it took some digging and untangling but i didn't mind. not one bit.

schmee loves scrap.

halfagons friday 07.25.2008

these will fill out the edges length wise of the granny "square" afghan. it took me some time to figure out the pattern for a half hexagon. but once i had it down, it took me no time to crochet 34.

i should confess that these halves are an after thought. i finished piecing the afghan last weekend but i wasn't happy with the look of the edges. i don't really know if these halves will solve the problem. we'll see.

edge treatment wednesday 07.30.2008

the halfagons appear to be working. for some reason i'm not entirely pleased. there's a broken feel to the afghan. may be it's just me. i need to stop obsessing.

i got a couple of requests for the pattern. i already have the hexagon drawn. i just need to sketch up the halfagon.
