or rather: why i love deedles.

deedles finished knitting the second sleeve

i brought knitting to portland in case of bad weather. unfortunately, it proved useful. i joined the sleeves to the body at pdx while waiting to board my flight home. i got quite a bit of knitting done in flight.

sloppy by design

i did it! my first aran ever, everyone! it has been a very interesting knit. i learned that i'm a very sloppy knitter. i normally cheat and alter the pattern as i go along. not for this sweater. the cables kept me honest. everything would tweak if i pulled the usual shenanigans.

underarm gusset, i think

that's my proudest achievement in knitting this sweater. i saw the trick done in a book by beth brown reinsel. i employed it solely to carry the cables from the body and arms to the yoke. although the transition could be a lot smoother, it's not a total failure.

i can't decide if i should block it. it fits me just fine as is although i wonder if it would look better blocked. either way, i should get pictures of it on me and show you. i should also blog about how i'd improve on the pattern.

afghan progress: slow

i have begun piecing the granny hexagons. i'm crocheting them together one by one. the crocheting is easy but the controlled randomization (oxymoron?) of the hexagons is slow work. for now, they're only attached in one direction. piecing in the other direction should go a lot faster.

coasters make effective head pieces*

i crocheted those today. i'm giving them to beeze+amanda as a house warming present. i was going to use rainbow colored yarns for them but then realized that i may not have enough for gay pride v2. plus, knitpicks seems to have discontinued the yellows in their palette line. republicans!

9 inch diameter, 6 inch square

amanda asked for felted coasters but i will let her do the felting. i hope they won't shrink past a functional size.

i like this goofy picture of me in the jack mormon sweater. i took it at the end of my hike sunday evening. i was going to have jg take better pictures but the wind had already kicked up and i just wanted to get back inside the car.
