skeletons in my closet monday 10.03.2005

i've been knitting like mad but i have nothing to show. lately i'm plagued by the desire to start up a whole mess of sweaters. unfortunately, i'm also plagued by the ufo syndrome. two such proofs:

noro kureyon 126

actually, that one is old news; i started it way back in may. it has been ripped and reknitted so many times that it could be considered the fifth sweater by now. the neck is done and is waiting to be sewn down. the sleeves are still going through trials. it would be a small miracle if i ever finish this project. i don't even know where it is right now.

super bulky mistake yarn

that one i started the evening before my road trip. it's a super quick knit, 100 stitches around for the body. it's actually a lot closer to being finished now. i hope to wear it to the snow this year, much like i hope to use up my entire yarn stash.

some day.

where's a good muse when you need one? wednesday 10.19.2005

virgin blogger here again. since the schmee is busy being timelessly elegant and taking the long route to her desk, i thought i would take this opportunity to hijack her bandwidth again.

so, like the schmee, i too have skeletons in my closet: i have knitting skeletons, sewing skeletons and lots of grandiose ambitions for homecooked meals and home baked delights. oh yeah, and a t-shirt concept that has been stewing for over a year. i have a few finished items but my motivation to create seems kaput.

friends, romans, countrypeople of the schmee. tell me: what do you do to stay motivated to create?

gimme a floggin' thursday 10.27.2005

...for forsaking this knit blog. it's only fitting for me to neglect this portion of schmeebot. between the home page and apad, the knit blog is effectively the middle child. my negligence is justified.

actually, let's blame it on thai an. she's the current guest blogger so she, too, should get some floggin'. let the virgin blogger have half of it.

i'm going to ease up on the finger pointing and give a shout to sara and peggy for having knitted up zeebees. check it:

sara: Hi, I just this minute finished my first zeebee hat & I love it.
It looks great and I can't wait to start knitting them in various
gauges, etc. I'm also grateful that you provided a "recipe" rather
                than a pattern. Thanks!

peggy: Hi! Paintball people love this hat! I guess it keeps paint out
of their hair. Thanks for publishing the pattern!

hahahahaha. this yarn person thanks sara, peggy, and the paintball people. thanks also to the lady with the messy hair, the one who squeezed the long winded recipe out of my little head. yay!

. . .

the twist

that elbow detail happens on both sleeves of a very old jcrew sweater i'm wearing today. it looks great except it's located at the elbow, where no one could ever see it. plus it stretches awkwardly when i bend my arms. an architect must have designed this sweater: yes, it's completely impractical, but it sure looks great if you can see it .

i don't know why the awkward elbow stretching suddenly bothers me so much. when i put it on this morning i actually tried to think of ways to unravel and fix it. i must be stopped.

by the way, i've been glancing at the winter sweaters at jcrew. i get a lot of knitting ideas from them. urgh, did i just write that? anyway, take a gander when you have time. see if you would agree with me how horrible this sweater is.

have a great weekend knitting, everyone!
