i have given up knitting for weeks in order to work overtime all because i planned on taking this thursday+friday off. i'm going camping everybody! i have been counting down the hours to this overdue vacation whilst wrestling with four separate deadlines. i managed to stay sane everyday until this morning. it's raining!

is it june, everybody? is it june? what is happening to this planet? the shifty weather is driving me nuts! this is what it looked like yesterday:

i was so bummed thhis morning waking up to the watery drizzle. first thing i did out of bed was checking the forecast.

it looks like the rain will spare big sur but who knows. i am still uneasy. right now all i'm hoping for is that it will stay dry while i'm knitting at camp. three rainfree days, that's all i ask.

big sur camping was a gleaming success! thanks to everyone for having encouraged me to go despite the unseasonally wet forecast.

i am working on a coherent photo essay of the trip. in the meantime, you can get a glimpse of the entire experience through maura's flickr.

cat, take two

there is a developing craze among knitters for the crochet cat. seeing amy's made me dig up my book and take another stab.

the blue yarn is lion's woolease but i have no idea what the name of the color is. i am having a heck of a time sewing the ears to the head. i just can't seem to put them in matching places. the fact that i hate sewing up parts makes it pretty daunting.

i will try to finish cat one, also in woolease, at the same time. i used a finer crochet hook for cat two so it's a bit smaller in size. i am hoping the tighter fabric will hold the pellets better. we'll see.

that this is a knitting blog

that's my third reknit of another experimental saddle shoulder decrease. i have yet to try it on but it looks satisfactory so far. i must admit: as much as i hate the knots in the yarn, i am totally taken by the color combo of kureyon 126. that's probably a meaningless confession given how i've only used one other color before. i'll probaly declare the same thing when i get started with 40, 138, 150, etc.

i've been working on the photo essay for the big sur camping trip nearly every night and i just can't seem to wrap it up. i've decided to give up and show them to you as i have them on flickr. they're decidedly lacking in captions but i'd rather that you see them now than some time in september.

first thing i do in the morning these days is fondling my birthday presents while wondering if i deserve any of it. today i put one of mariko's presents on one of amy's and wondered some more. jg tried to catch the moment.

7:29 am is not a good time for pictures

that's skinny minny marmalade. she arrived from arizona yesterday not knowing that a terrific suitcase of custom wares has been waiting for her.

skimima is now staring out the window. i bet she is wondering if she deserves that suitcase.

postcard to arizona

dear matcha,

it has been a five days since i said goodbye to you. my trip to california was relatively short and pleasantly restful. i arrived in san francisco two days ago, safe and sound.

yesterday i spent the majority of the day getting familiar with the apartment. it is small and comfortable although it could be a bit more tidy.

today i've been moving from window to window studying the streets. i live on the fourth floor so i have sweeping views of the neighborhood. i wish the fog would lift so i could see farther than just down the block.

i miss being able to lie and bask in the sunlight and, of course, i miss you. i hope you are doing fine. enjoy the warmth of arizona for me.
