i made those over the weekend. the yarn is from a hideous kid size sweater i found at a thrift shop in sb. i bought it for the colors. i thought the yarn was acrylic so, after i ripped the sweater and wound the yarn into hanks, i threw it in with a load of laundry. it totally surprised me when the yarn came out shrunken and felted together. i guess there must be a good percentage of wool in it.
anyway, i knit both hats using the same needles and pattern. you can't really tell from the picture but one turned out larger than the other. i even made sure they had the same number of stitches and rows. i must be some sort of magician.
i plan on giving both hats away. after g gets her first pick (because she called from australia asking "how many tons of wool would you like for souvenir?"), i'll just have to force the remainder hat on another unfortunate friend.

that's travis, the stranger for whom the storm beanie was made. turns out he was touring around in santa barbara while i was knitting the hat. small world, eh? anyway, the hat made it to anachorage just in time for his return. i don't remember asking for proof, but i'm pretty pleased that he sent me the picture. nothing boosts my ego more than to see someone wear my work.

so nice to be knitting again. i have a boat load of ideas for hats and i'm trying to put some of it to good use. anyway, how do you like the shameless branding? i'm sending this particular hat to a total stranger in alaska. if the craziness in my head works out, i just might pick up where knitkid left off.
