that's a birthday gift idea which i couldn't make happen. (would have made for a lame gift anyway.) it's a knock off of a poster i saw on etsy, a more metaphorical version that says let's climb a mountain together. i like my version better. the image of mt whitney et al is from a picture i took at the lone pine ranger station. the weak scribbling is by me.
wow, how novel to be blogging again. i've got a lot of catching up to do.
that's me, some 5 ounces of hair lighter. i should have let it grown a bit longer before cutting. it's now too short to be tied back. i have to use bobby pins to keep it away from my face.
12 inch of hair, plagued with gray
destined for pantene beautiful lengths
the last time i got a cut this short, i was in high school. now my hair doesn't know what to do with itself. it stands on end every day when i get out of bed. happy to be free of the burden of length, i guess.

the bob doesn't cut it (heh) for me. it makes my head look round and, well, enormous. i hope to be rid of it in a couple of months. the bob, that is.
...
true story: i showed the first picture (top of blog post) to close friends the day after the hair cut. these are the responses i got:
texas: aah, cute!
chee: awww, so cute!
rick: is that a cocteau's twin [sic] album behind you?
jg and i took advantage of the sunny morning by going for a hike up saddle rock. the wind picked up as we got higher. by the time we got to the peak, it was gale force. i think it blew half the hair off my head.
the blustering didn't let up for a second the whole time we were at the top. it was deafening with all the trees thrashing around.
that's jg partying it up with team goleta last night. rubayi and tom treated us to a steak dinner complete with endive salad, baked baby potatoes, and green beans with almonds.
our five star chef
rum flambe tri-berry shortcake a la mode
jg and i both knew tom was a chef, but we really had no idea what magic he can do until last night. truly fantastic.
sometime during my sunday afternoon nap i thought i heard a gun shot in the house. i ran downstairs to find jg in the kitchen with his nail gun. "oh, did i wake you?"
"while you're here, put on these ear muffs and hold this other piece of mdf up so i can nail it."
"sure, if you can explain to me why a dust mask is required for using a nail gun."
sometime during the five star dinner experience it was decided that we would go camping in montana de oro. early friday afternoon tom+rubayi drove up early to secure a camp site. jg and i left town at 6 pm. by the time we reached camp, tom and rubayi were already enjoying a roaring fire.
the sky was nice and dark and the milky way was clearly visible over head. i couldn't help trying for a few night shots.

jg and i set up tent in the dark. the santa ana winds blew off and on at half hour intervals. none of us had trouble sleeping. i got up once during the night for water. i heard a coyote yipping nearby and decided to wake jg so he could hear it.

saturday morning the weather was perfect, sunny, warm, and clear. we decided to go for hike up valencia peak where tom and rubayi had never been.

after the hike we headed down to spooner's cove for some tidepooling except the water was a bit too high to see much.

one fine saturday at 5:13 pm
we left the beach and walked up to the bluffs to catch the sunset. i forced team goleta to pose for a glamour shot.
they can haz romanced
after the sunset team goleta headed back to camp while jg and i got back on the road to go home. on the way out of the park, we stopped for a few night shots.

looking north (morro bay)
while i messed with the camera jg heard an owl hooting in the eucalyptus tree across the road. we hung around for a good while just to listen. a pleasant way to end this all too short camping trip.
