i took that picture of me on sunday while hiking around el capitan canyon resort. in the back you can see fellow hikers to the right and ray ford to the left.
"yes, that ray ford."
note the heavy duty camera (man after my own heart)
i took that picture last tuesday when we were out for a preview of the trail. anyway, it was scott who got me involved with sbtc back in december. i was invited to sit in on an excomm meeting in february and next thing i knew, i volunteerd to lead a hike for the sbtc annual bbq.
the multi-use trail event started at 9:30 sunday. the weather was truly fantastic and the turn out was rather impressive.
runners making like retired rockettes
horse and mule riders
and hikers
mountain bikers also participated but it was too early for me to point my camera at spandex. anyway, i led hike #1 of four, the lower loop of the bill wallace trail. it was advertised as the hike with the most elevation gain. of course, only the bravest four persons signed up for it.
rubayi, tom, tamara, and kirk
the 800 feet climb
power hikers yielding to otis and his (headless) mule
getting schooled by ray ford at the highest point of the hike

i'm sorry about the date stamping. these pictures were taken with a canon g11 on loan from the race director and i didn't check the settings before using it.
at some point we gained a couple of hikers. they didn't introduce themselves and i didn't bother to ask for their names. terrible leader, i know. i did learn that the dog's name is kyil (meaning patience in japanese, or so i'm told). i only asked because whenever they talked to the dog, it sounded like they were telling it to kill.
a poor re-enactment of a wedding
removing litter from willow trees
finally, someone asked if i wanted my picture taken

hiking through the resort
impromptu meet up with group #4 on the selma rubin trail
ray traded the truck for a pair of trekking poles
hiking up to paradise point
paradise point
scott and his women
from paradise point we headed back down to the resort store for the sbtc bbq. chicken ranch was served, complete with beef tri-tip, beans, rice, and salsa.
hungry runners' table
topping it all off, a local band came to play for the event. fantastic day over all!
