it took me over nine hours to make that rabbit, a replica of legs minus the felting. i was struggling with the knitting like you wouldn't believe. who came up with this crazy pattern, anyway?
so, i stayed up pretty late last night to finish the rabbit. i wanted to get it sent right away to my friend jason lee. he and his wife just got a baby girl. and lucky for him, i like baby girls. i also wanted to get it done so i could show it on my very first post of 2007.
so, happy new year, everyone! may your 2007 be full of good luck!
i discovered these cards last week. for some reason they remind me of my catholic school days when the nuns handed out reward and punishment in the form of merit and demerit. after elaborating to holly how the nuns only kept record of the demerits (which i got lots of), i decided to make my own cards so i can spread the joy of my scarred childhood.
my first victim was my boss. i had just printed out the pdf and was cutting it in the plot room when i overheard:
bill: happy new year, lynn!
lynn: so, are you ready to get back to work?
bill had just gotten back from the holidays so he was simply being cheerful to everyone. lynn stopped him cold. bill immediately put on an exaggerated sad face and shuffled off. lynn laughed and laughed. it was pretty funny. and it was just the thing that would have thrown the nuns into a demerit frenzy.
i handed lynn the slip by itself and that's how he handed it over to bill. bill laughed and laughed.

i have a college classmate who is now an associate principal at a prestigious firm while this is what i do at my office. when i showed the merit+demerit card to g, she said, "is that what you do at work all day besides playing catch with waffles?"
that's my favorite shot from this past weekend. i took it at fort funston, a park which i've driven by many times going in and out of the city. sunday i talked jg into checking it out with me.
my favorite house on great highway
fort funston, aka dog park
me on hiking trail with a giant water bottle in my pocket
griping about forgetting to wear my norwegian hat
jg at picnic spot
not really a picnic, just a thermos of coffee which jg made fresh from:
a new blend
same spot, different angle
we didn't sit there for long. it was way too cold to be staying still.
offshore wind
dried roots
wild strawberry?
jg with clay pigeon shards
complete with lead shots
a very curious find
hike continues
crop sand circles
jg overlooking park on hike back
fort no more
back on sandy bluff at other end of tunnel
we tried to stay for the sunset but it got way too cold. plus we ran out of coffee so we had to leave. on our way out, we passed by doggy oasis. i had never seen so many dogs in one spot.
no waffles
overall, a pretty neat park, an entirely new perspective of the coast for me. i enjoyed the hike, but i could do without seeing half the dogs of san francisco pooping (while their owners watch them).
i had to go to downtown carpinteria for some errands today. before i left the office, i asked if anyone wanted some starbucks.
karen: mocha with extra whip cream.
erkan: mocha, too.
andy: i want a tall... eighteen year old.
thuy: i want one, too, andy, but i'm going to a different starbucks today.
...
things i saw this past weekend in sf:
seen on geary street
do now
my friend was once being mean to me
because she liked her other friend
better than me
found on sidewalk along roosevelt middle school on arguello
tiffany's
"size was a bit too large and it fell off"
reward $100
i first saw the yellow lost pet poster in front of albertson's on casitas. then i noticed it's also in the parking lot here, some two miles away.
max
these next two were taken this past weekend.
chiquito
lost by inept sitters at precisely 1:15 pm
don't call owners. call animal control instead!
mitzi
i'm glad the flyer says dog. otherwise i would have guessed that mitzi is a giant rat. it's the first time (may be second) i got put off by a lost pet poster. terrible name, horrible picture. and the paper isn't even a standard size.
i found the next two within five feet of each other at miramar beach.
if wet is good, then stolen is better
serial number, ahahahahah
i have no sympathy for these people. it's plain stupid leaving your board unattended. i should find out where they live and whop them with demerits.
i received that postcard from my buddy justin last week. he sent it back in december, when he spent the entire month around indonesia and singapore. look at all the pictures he took! (each image leads to a different set of pictures; scroll down for more.) my most favorite:
west meets east
i emailed to ask if he owns that wrap and, more important, what he wears under it. i will let you know when i hear from him.
